I would like to tell you about one of the most interesting barns I have seen in 10 years. I started in this business 10 years ago and learned the standard for mortise and tenon construction in barns that are located in north central Wisconsin. This particular barn frame is so different from normal mortise and tenon construction. This is mainly because of the joint work that was done on the knee braces. If you’d like to build a house that is completely different from every other barn frame house, this is your frame. The joint on the knee braces is actually not a mortise and tenon construction, it is more similar to a dove tail construction, much like you would see in a log cabin from the 1800’s, or something along that line. Also very fascinating is the quality and also the squareness of the beams. The craftman really did a lot of work to make these hand hewn beams very nice and very square. Aside from that the craftsman just did a really phenomenal job at making this structure as absolutely perfect and also very unique. The barn’s timber frame is 30 X 80 and will yield some very nice timbers if somebody would like to buy these simply for the timbers. The old wood barn frame can also be purchased for reassembly, it would be professionally drawn up on cad and tagged for reassemble.
